Buddha Passion

As part of Melbourne International Arts Festival, the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra presents the Australian premiere of Tan Dun's monumental new work, Buddha Passion, an epic opera in six acts.

Inspired by the devotional carvings of generations of pilgrims at the Mogao Caves in western China - also known as the Caves of the Thousand Buddhas - Buddha Passion is sung in Chinese and Sanskrit and tells the stories of love, forgiveness, sacrifice and redemption as they were told for generations along the Silk Road.
