The hallowed MCG turf will be transformed from a playing surface to a viewing surface this summer, with the launch of a public open air cinema.
Attendees can create their own picnic on the grass, bringing blankets, pillows and snacks, or enjoy a range of cinema fare from the MCG onsite caterers.
Proceeds from the event will go to the Bank of Melbourne Neighbourhood Fund, which supports local charities and programs that deliver sustainable benefits to Victorian communities in need.
Melbourne Cricket Club CEO Stephen Gough said the club, in partnership with Bank of Melbourne, was looking forward to opening up the ground for a very different summer spectator event.
The MCG is a world-class venue when it comes to watching sport and events, but this is the first time in over a century that the spectators have themselves been on the playing surface for a cinema experience.
Gough says he is excited to offer people this unique opportunity to enjoy a great night out with family and friends in what is arguably the world's most spectacular open air cinema, and encourage everyone to come along and be a part of it.
