Hell Ship - The Journey of Ticonderoga

Chester Creative presents Hell Ship: The Journey of Ticonderoga. Author, actor and comedian Michael Veitch tells the tale of one of the most tragic true stories of the maritime history.

In 1852, the emigrant ship Ticonderoga struggled into Port Melbourne after a nightmare voyage from England in which nearly 200 of her passengers had died of typhus. Her saga of tragedy, loss and heroism gripped the people of the young nation like nothing before.

Exploring themes of family, grit and courage the show shines a light on the young ship’s surgeon who bravely nursed many of the passengers back to health; Michael Veitch’s great-great-grandfather, James William Henry Veitch.

Written and performed by Michael Veitch. Directed by Peter Houghton and music by Thomas Veitch.
