Hidden Faces - The 2018 Victorian Salon des Refuses

Hidden Faces - The 2018 Victorian Salon des Refuses - is an exhibition of portraits by Victorian artists, originally submitted for a number of national portrait prizes, including the Dug Moran, Portia Geach, Archibald, Sulman, Scratchboard and Black Swan, which were either not hung in the official exhibitions or have not been shown in Melbourne. It is on display at the Pan Pacific Melbourne and open to the public all day, every day, i.e. for 24 hours. Now well established in Melbourne’s arts calendar, Hidden Faces unveils a broad spectrum of entertaining, challenging and insightful paintings of such well-known subjects as Performers: Jack Jones, Kerry Armstrong, Lior, Nicholas Bell and Mick Thomas; Sport Icons: Garry Ablett Sr., Nathan Lyon, Melissa Tapper and David Pocock; Artists: Geoff La Gerche, Bruce Earles, Bill Young and Shane Crumpton; Authors Rosalie Ham and John Safran, Film Director John Chase and Professor Mabel Lee. The portraits of Joanna Murray-Smith, on loan from the Melbourne Theatre Company and of Doug Wade, on loan from the Geelong Football Club, are especially highlighted. Hidden Faces follows in the long tradition of the French Impressionists of the 1860s who held a breakaway exhibition from the French Academy.
