Steamfest is a great family day out with broad appeal from toddlers to grandads. It is a step back in time where the emphasis is on action with wheels turning everywhere. Something special is a display of ploughing using a rare pair of steam ploughing engines. To contrast teams of Clydesdale horses will be showing how it was done when horses provided the horse power.
Vintage earthmoving machinery will be active all weekend rearranging the dirt piles. Antique farm engines will be baling hay, sawing wood and pumping water. Steam traction engines, rollers and military vehicles, vintage cars and steam boats will round out the outdoor activities.
In the museum the club’s collection of over 40 industrial and marine steam engines will be turning under steam power. The big diesel powered generators are another draw card. There are displays of model engines and engineering.
In the blacksmith shop the steam hammer demonstrates old time skills. Woodworking, vintage tools and other reminders of days gone by will be presented by hobbyists eager to share their enthusiasm.
The miniature train and tractor rides are popular as is the interactive model railway layout.
Live music acts all day. Refreshments available.
