Yvette Johansson is one of Melbourne’s most respected and endearing vocalists. Her vocal abilities are renowned and her stage presence leaves audiences in raptures.
Having carved a well-worn niche for herself, in the jazz landscape, with her sell-out tributes to Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday; residencies at Melbourne’s leading jazz clubs, for over a decade and as featured vocalist, for the Freeview ad campaign of 2013-14, Yvette is now forging a path, towards being a contemporary artist to be reckoned with.
She has been dabbling in songwriting, ever since pursuing her studies at The Victorian College of the Arts and since showcasing her efforts at Bird's Basement in 2016 (and at Federation Square, for White Night 2017) her original music has been gaining a small but passionate following.
This time, at Bird's, she will be presenting a program that blends the classic jazz repertoire she knows so well, with a small sample, of some more contemporary sounds; both, from her own songwriting catalogue and from some of her favourite artists.
Playing with Yvette Johansson are: Chris Summerville (piano), Dan Gordon (bass), Sonja Horbelt (drums).
